"The Real World"

So often people refer to "the real world", as in "okay, {insert enjoyable activity} has been great but it's time to get back to the real world". What is your association with "the real world"? Is it your "normal"? The times when you're not on vacation or indulging in a fantasy about winning the lottery? Is it having a job and making a living? Is "the real world" life with the fun, joy and precious stripped away?

I heard something similar come from my own lips and realized it was time for a change in perspective. That utterance was not the only reason, but it was a catalyst: to leave my comfort zone, to re-evaluate priorities and goals, to experience life-in-the-moment.

I moved across the country to join my fiancé, I travelled to and volunteered on the other side of the world. I met incredible people with amazing stories. I experienced unparalleled beauty, kindness and inspiration. I witnessed poverty and bravery and selflessness.

The challenge is now maintaining that sense of wonder and appreciation for the beauty of a simple moment here, in the U.S., within a  traditional first world routine and lifestyle. I've had a reset but it's up to me to keep my "real world" full of joy and fun and beauty. But it's for more than just me, it's for everyone else who has spat those words from their mouth. Can I reach them too?
